How Charity: Water Founder Scott Harrison Helps Millions

Image of Clean Water

Water is essential to life, but not everyone has access to clean water — this was before Scott Harrison, founder of Charity: Water, came along. Harrison’s story is one of transformation and hope, and his mission to bring clean water to people all around the world is one of inspiration.

Charity: Water is an organization that aims to bring clean drinking water to those in need.

Harrison’s journey to starting this organization is remarkable. Once a party promoter in New York City, he transformed his life after a trip to Liberia, where he witnessed the harmful effects of contaminated water firsthand.

Seeing the devastating impact of waterborne illnesses on children inspired him to start his non-profit in 2006.

Since then, their mission has been to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries. The organization works closely with local communities to build wells, sanitation facilities, and other water projects.

Charity: Water has funded over 60,000 water projects in 29 countries, providing much-needed access to clean water to more than 17 million people.

One unique aspect of his non-profit is the way they have merged technology and philanthropy. They created different programs to raise funds, such as “The Spring,” an app that allows people to donate their birthdays to help fund Charity: Water’s water projects.

Their tech-savvy approach has also made their work more transparent, allowing donors to see exactly where their money is going and how it’s being used.

Another way that Charity: Water raises funds is through its “Wells for Tanzania” campaign. The campaign focuses on bringing clean water to schools in Tanzania, with 100% of donations going directly towards school water projects.

Education is critical to breaking the cycle of poverty, and clean water is essential to providing a healthy and safe learning environment.

They have also created many partnerships over the years, which include brands like Dasani, Lyft, and Jack Dorsey’s Square and Twitter.

Harrison said, “This has allowed our mission to be amplified to people, to be introduced to them through things like Dasani bottles and then have them taking action on that. Charities typically don’t have advertising budgets, so we see ourselves as kind of a conduit of amplification for other companies that want to give back. So, it’s been really fun to see that work.”

Scott Harrison has made a remarkable impact on the world. His goal to bring clean water to the most vulnerable is simple yet desperately needed.

Charity: Water has significantly impacted communities worldwide by leveraging technology and innovative fundraising approaches.

If Scott Harrison’s story and work inspire you, consider getting involved in their campaigns or donating. Even a small contribution can make a big difference in someone’s life.
